Offering Light and Laughter in a Darkened World |

Please be my Vision, sweet Lord of my heart; Let me always and only set You Christ apart. My first thought, my last thought from morning to night, Awake or asleep, your presence my light. |

Greetings Cyber Traveler!
I’m happy you’ve surfed into Glimmers of Light. Now that you’re here, I hope you’ll consider this your home page away from home.
I invite you, as my grandpa would, to “take a load off and stay a while.” Enjoy a little light and laughter before heading back out into the shadows of a darkened world.
My grandpa knew true darkness. He had been blinded in one eye during a farming accident and lost sight in the other due to an incurable eye disease. While I knew he couldn’t see, I never thought of him as blind. Instead I remember him being filled with light and laughter. Anyone who knew him would tell you the same. The light of God’s presence and easy laughter drew people to him like lemonade in summer heat or crackling fires on a cold winter night.
He lived with my grandmother in a beautiful old farmhouse. The front yard was anchored by a tree whose branches sagged under the weight of ripened pears. Wooden rocking chairs lined the front porch, and the kitchen smelled of sweet fried pies and pickled cucumbers.
Words circulated through screened doors originating from conversations underneath the old oak out back. The tree was an umbrella of shade that produced glimmers of light as sunshine filtered through leaves and played joyfully on the ground. Weary travelers stopped by often, sometimes sitting in the cane-bottomed chairs for hours at a time. My grandparents offered up heaping servings of light and laughter. Encouraged, and inspired, visitors smiled as they drove away.
It was under that old oak tree that I learned how to manage life’s challenges.
Now that I face the same eye disease that left my grandpa blind and as my eyesight continues to fade, I offer light and laughter to you. I pray that this spot in cyber space will do in your life what time spent under the oak tree did for so many. May you be encouraged and inspired, as you continue to browse, and may you find a smile along the way.
In His service, Donna

Glimmer of Light: Blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear (Matt. 13: 16 NIV).
Light for the Journey: Always remember: God gave us two ears and one mouth for a reason.
Laughter As You Go: When my husband, Don, and I were at church the other night, I asked him to guide me to the ladies room. I talked excitedly as we walked. When Don’s footsteps paused, I kept right on talking and walking. I couldn’t figure out why he kept trying to interrupt me. A few steps into the bathroom and I understood. The cold white fixture hanging on the wall said it all. To my horror and Don’s delight, I was in the men's room. |
